Coinbase Stock Rallies 15% on Strong Q1 2026 Revenue as Crypto Trading Volumes Recover

Coinbase Global (COIN) shares surged 15% following the release of its Q4 2025 earnings, which showed revenue of $1.9 billion, up 67% year-on-year. The result beat analyst estimates of $1.7 billion and marked the strongest quarterly revenue since the crypto bull market of late 2021. Transaction revenue rose 92% to $1.1 billion, driven by increased retail and institutional trading activity.

Revenue Diversification

Coinbase has made progress diversifying beyond transaction fees. Subscription and services revenue, which includes staking income, custodial fees, and interest on USDC holdings, reached $575 million in Q4, up 34% year-on-year. Staking revenue alone was $218 million, reflecting the growth of Ethereum staking since the Merge.

The company's Base layer-2 blockchain network, launched in August 2023, processed over 100 million transactions in Q4. While Base does not directly generate significant revenue, it positions Coinbase as a key infrastructure provider in the Ethereum ecosystem.

Regulatory Position

Coinbase's legal battle with the SEC, initiated in June 2023, saw a partial resolution in late 2025 when a federal judge dismissed several of the SEC's claims regarding specific tokens. The case continues on other counts, but the narrowing of charges has been viewed positively by investors. Coinbase remains the only major US crypto exchange listed on a public stock exchange, giving it regulatory credibility that competitors lack.

The company is also the custodian for most US-based spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, generating custodial fees from assets totalling approximately $120 billion.

International Expansion

Coinbase has expanded its international presence, obtaining regulatory licences in the UK, Germany, Canada, Brazil, and Singapore. International revenue now accounts for approximately 18% of total revenue, up from 8% in 2023. CEO Brian Armstrong has stated a goal of reaching 50 countries by end of 2026.
