U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $297.6 million in net inflows on 17 August and a further $189 million on 18 August — roughly $487 million in two sessions and among the strongest daily prints in months. The turnaround followed a July stretch in which products saw net outflows or decelerating inflows, including a reported 12-session withdrawal streak near $4 billion.

That flow reversal arrived just as Bitcoin reclaimed the high-$69,000s. ETF creations are not the whole rally — Treasury buybacks and a short squeeze amplified the move — but they are the cleanest signal that institutional spot demand is back after the summer stall. August net inflows into Bitcoin ETFs were tracking near $950 million into mid-month, even as smaller products continued to struggle for scale.

Ethereum Products Join the Bid

Spot Ethereum ETFs also posted a notable daily inflow this week, with several desks describing it as the strongest session in months. BlackRock's ETHA led creations, with Fidelity's FETH and smaller trusts adding to the tape. The ETH bid matters because it is harder to dismiss the Bitcoin bounce as a one-asset squeeze if both flagship ETF complexes are taking in cash.

What Flows Do — and Do Not — Prove

Inflows compress available supply when they exceed newly mined Bitcoin, as they did during the spring run that took BTC toward $81,000. They can also reverse quickly. JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs have both flagged that ETF flow momentum is pro-cyclical: the same vehicles that absorb coins on the way up become a source of selling when risk appetite fades.

The product set is also thinning at the margin. Hashdex recently wound down a spot Bitcoin ETF after assets and liquidity failed to justify remaining listed — a reminder that the IBIT-and-FBTC core of the market is not the same as a uniformly healthy ETF complex.
